Hi there,
Sometimes I wonder what would happen if we had a cafe menu like this. But instead of a white mocha and caramel macchiato, it read 'friendship’ or ‘calm’.
I’ve realised that I go to cafes for some of the things that I need in my life: connection in the form of the people just around me, essential as I work from home most of the time.
Warmth as I nurture that cup of oat milk latte, and find something tangible to hold on to.
And focus, as usually, it’s just me and my laptop with all the things I need to do at home or out in life silenced for just a moment.
Some of us self-soothe with cafes, we seek them out to give us something, but what that needs to be shifts for each of us.
I have a grieving family member and in the moment that he is buying his daily coffee, he is a person in the world and not just someone who lost his wife.
I know someone else, who for them the only person they talk to in their day is the barista.
I have a friend whose morning coffee pick-up is as comforting as turning to Netflix at the end of the day.
Maybe that’s why so many of the posts here are illustrated with cafes. They bring something to us we hadn’t realised we needed but we seek out all the same.
That’s my hope for The Wellery — imagine you’ve just been invited into the coziest place for coffee, your menu is in front of you, and your friends are waiting for you to join them. What would you order? Kindness? Joy? Happiness? Or something else?
Let me know. Maybe we’ll add it to this year’s menu.
Monthly meet-up: Anchoring
This month in our get-together, we’ll be focusing on our values: what they are, how to find them, and how they can help us. Our values list might be the closest to this menu that we can get.
